Why Water Station Project?
One of the many sources of environmental pollution in Ghana are plastics, especially rubber sachets (these are plastic pouches filled with water and sold on the streets of Ghana and Africa by street vendors) and bottled water. This has been a fast-growing business that has far reaching usage as a source of drinking water in Ghana. Sachet water is sold in 500 mL plastic pouches while bottled water is sold in a variety of sizes from 330ml to 1500ml. There is also bottled water supplied to corporate Ghana in plastic dispensers. “Almost 8.2 billion sachets of water are consumed in Ghana (Stoler, 2017)….it is estimated that more than 3,000 metric tons daily and one million tons yearly of plastic waste are generated. An estimated 86 percent of Ghana’s waste plastic load is improperly disposed of resulting in plastics clogging up stormwater drains, rivers, and streams and ending up in the oceans. It is estimated that 250,000 metric tons of plastic waster are dumped from Ghana into the Atlantic Ocean (World Bank, 2020). They are fertile ground for mosquitoes to breed in, block drains and if they’re burnt, they cause air pollution.

According to the United Nations (U.N.), the ultimate target for sustainable development goal (SDG) 6.1 is the universal supply of safely managed and affordable drinking water by all and for all by 2030 (United Nations, 2020). Presently, only about 30% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) drink from safe and improved water resources. Microplastics found in drinking water of West Africa’s largest city (Legos) Bloomberg Published: 18 May, 2022: 12:21 PM GST Researchers noted that microplastics don’t degrade and if plastic pollution continues, it “will result in increased accumulation in borehole drinking water with time.” In 2022 while discussing this nightmare, we asked ourselves “how can we curb this phenomenon destroying our environment?” ; What if high-quality water was more accessible in public places – from schools and parks to major events and growing cities – using a new kind of safe, smart and sustainable water bottle refill station? One that regulates its supply, meets the highest health standards and is made in our hometown. We wanted to create the technology that would meet the needs of our growing cities, our fragile environment, and the health of our children at affordable prices. So, we thought of the world’s smartest water station. That is where an environmentally friendly / socially conscious company with solutions came into play. Your products and services overtime will help reduce the plastic nightmare drastically while providing the cleanest, healthiest water for the populace. The provision of smart water stations will also go a long way in meeting some of the key agenda items of the United Nation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Some of which are as follows:
Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
